Description

Gulliford Cottages, originally a single dwelling, dates to 1743, with substantial enlargements and alterations occurring later. The construction is primarily roughcast cob on stone footings, with a gabled-end slate roof. The building began as a two-room, cross-passage house, extended to the left, and then again enlarged with the addition of a rear wing in the late 19th century. End stacks are present; one, to the right of the cob section, is external with offsets and a brick shaft, while the other is to the 19th-century wing. The front elevation has a four-window range with two-light casement windows to the first floor, likely dating to the 19th century, and three 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor, alongside a French window. A plain brick roughcast porch displays a datestone marked "1743" and initials. The roadside elevation exhibits a thicker base, with the upper part possibly constructed of lath and plaster; it has a three-window range, featuring one half-dormer window, and three ground floor windows of varying sizes and dates. Primarily 20th-century casement windows are found to the rear, and the interior remains uninspected.
