Description

Cliff Castle and St Elmo are a pair of mid-19th century houses, converted into flats, situated on an elevated site overlooking the sea. The building is constructed of stucco and features a castellated design. It is three storeys high with an attic and has a five-bay facade, with narrower bays on either side of three projecting bays. The projecting bays are flanked by round turrets, each with an embattled parapet featuring machicolations and cruciform arrow loops. The two right-hand recesses each have a projecting second floor with an arcaded design, intersecting glazing bars, and an embattled parapet. A doorway below is topped by a moulded round arch and a blind fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. The left-hand two-bay recess has modern balconies on the ground and first floors, with glazed panels. The left-hand bay has modern splayed bay windows. The right-hand portion of the building includes a modern mansard attic storey.
