Description

The Smith headstone, located approximately 15 meters north of the chapel of the Church of St John in Colaton Raleigh, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1809 in memory of James Smith. This headstone is made of sandstone and stands about 1.2 meters high with a shaped head. The top features a sunken panel that displays a cherub's head in bas relief. Below this panel, the inscription is presented in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, commemorating the death of James Smith in 1809 and including an epitaph.
