Description
The stables, located approximately 1.5 metres west of Otterton Mill, are a stable block that dates from the mid-19th century and is contemporary with Otterton Mill. They are constructed from large, roughly-dressed blocks of brown local conglomerate sandstone, featuring red brick relieving arches above the windows, and have a slate roof. The stables, which include a hayloft above, face east towards Otterton Mill. There is a carriageway between the stables and the mill that leads to a courtyard behind the mill. The symmetrical front of the building has a central plank door flanked by casement windows, and there is a 20th-century replacement door for the hayloft above. The roof has plain eaves and is hipped at both ends. The interior has not been inspected. These stables are part of a group with Otterton Mill and other listed buildings in The Green, Otterton Village.
