Description

Crinhayes Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th or 18th century, although it may be older. It has a 20th-century extension. The building is constructed from plastered local stone rubble, possibly with some cob, and features stone rubble and brick stacks, one of which has a stone rubble chimney shaft, while the other is topped with 19th and 20th-century brick. The roof is thatched.

The farmhouse is designed in an L-shape, with the main block facing southwest. It appears to have a four-room layout with a central entrance hall and staircase. The two outer rooms are unheated. The room to the right of the center has a rear lateral stack, while the room to the left of the center has an axial stack that backs onto the end room. There is a 20th-century one-room extension that projects at right angles to the rear of the left end, which features a gable end stack.

An internal inspection was not conducted during the survey, so the current layout and the historic development of the house cannot be described in detail. The farmhouse does not exhibit an obvious 16th or 17th-century layout, and a full internal inspection would be necessary to clarify its history. The building has two storeys and an irregular three-window front with 20th-century casements that lack glazing bars; the first-floor windows extend slightly into the eaves. The front doorway, located slightly to the right of center, features a 20th-century plank door behind a contemporary gabled porch. The roof is gable-ended. Although the interior was not inspected, the owner claims it contains old beams. Crinhayes is an intriguing farmhouse that may have a noteworthy interior.
