Description
A cottage, probably dating to the 18th century, with later modernisation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The cottage is constructed of plastered local stone and flint rubble, with stone rubble stacks topped with 19th and 20th-century brick, and a thatched roof. It occupies a hillside location on high ground, built across the slope facing east and overlooking the Yarty Valley. Originally planned as three rooms, it includes a kitchen with a gable-end stack at the north end, a central unheated service room and staircase, and a parlour with a gable-end stack at the south end. Evidence suggests it may have originally been two cottages, although the layout of the division is unclear, with a blocked doorway visible on the left side of the front elevation. The cottage is two storeys high and has rear outshots. The front facade has an irregular three-window arrangement with late 19th and 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. The central doorway has a late 19th-century plank door behind a contemporary gabled porch. The interior has undergone significant late 19th and 20th-century modernisation, with the sole remaining carpentry detail being a chamfered oak lintel above the kitchen fireplace. The roof space was not inspected.
