Description

Corrymoor Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or 18th century, with some modernization occurring in the late 19th to early 20th century. It is constructed from plastered local stone rubble, possibly with some cob, and features stone rubble and brick stacks that are topped with plastered 20th-century brick. The cottage has a thatched roof, while an outshot has a tiled roof.

The building has a small three-room layout facing south-south-west, built down a hillslope. The main living room is located at the left (west) end and includes a gable-end stack, with the front doorway leading directly into this room. There is a small unheated central room, and the right (east) end room, which has a rear lateral stack, is now used as a kitchen. This stack was added in the late 19th to early 20th century, and the owner notes that this room was previously an animal byre before being converted for domestic use. The cottage is two storeys high and features a secondary wash house outshot on the left end.

The exterior is low and has an irregular two-window front with late 19th to early 20th-century casements that include glazing bars. The main front doorway is positioned left of centre and features a late 19th to early 20th-century plank door behind a gabled porch. There is a similar secondary doorway at the right end, and the roof is gable-ended. Inside, there are plain carpentry details where exposed. Corrymoor Cottage is a rare example of a small isolated cottage, as many similar cottages in the area have fallen into dereliction and disappeared, while this one has seen little modernization since the early 20th century.
