Description
This is a pair of cottages located on Fore Street in Seaton. They likely date from the 16th century, though they have been altered over time. The cottages are built of whitewashed stone rubble and have a thatched roof, with the right-hand end hipped. They are set back from the road. The front elevation has four windows, mostly three-light casements. Number 72 features a ground-floor four-light mullion window with ovolo moulding. A prominent external chimney stack is positioned at the front, constructed from knapped flint with Beer stone dressings and set-offs. A moulded timber door frame leads to a cross passage, featuring a cambered head and stone quoins. A brick chimney stack rises over the ridge of the roof. At the rear, there are two small, pointed arch windows. The interior includes two jointed arch trusses, plank and muntin screens forming a cross passage with Tudor arched doorways, and a moulded ceiling beam.
