Description

The kitchen garden walls and lodge, located to the north-west and west-south-west of Rousdon, were built around 1880 by Sir Ernest George and T. Vaughan. The walls enclose a large rectangular garden and are constructed of red brick, featuring brick coping and large ramped buttresses on the outer sides. There are moulded rubbed brick arches at the entrances on the east and west sides, complemented by moulded brick spandrels and a frieze at the eaves cornice, which supports a half hipped tiled roof. Small pavilions are situated at the south-east and south-west corners, each topped with a pyramidal roof. The north-east and north-west corners have moulded brick piers adorned with stone finials shaped like an owl and a stork. Additionally, there is a single-storey stone lodge at the north-west corner, which includes timber-framing in the gable and a tiled roof.
