Description
The farm buildings forming a courtyard behind and partially adjoining Newlands date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from sandstone and volcanic trap in random rubble, topped with gabled-end dry-slate roofs. This group consists of three main components: first, a sandstone barn that adjoins and aligns with the left-hand cross-wing of Newlands Farmhouse, featuring entrances and openings with brick arches; second, a linhay that continues the alignment of the barn and returns to create the lower north range of the courtyard, covered with a corrugated-iron roof; third, a volcanic trap barn that faces the sandstone barn, which has two large, slightly projecting wagon entrances at the front and opposing entrances at the rear, with a line of 19th-century nesting boxes above each. The roof structure includes principals with tie-beams, king-posts, and diagonal struts.
