Description
Rockbeare Bridge is a road bridge that has been by-passed by the A30. It was rebuilt by G Reed in 1790 and is constructed from red sandstone and volcanic trap. The bridge features a single round arch, long abutment walls, and parapets with semi-circular coping stones. Notably, the profile of the parapet above the arch is distinctly triangular. On the south wall, east side (facing the A30), there are two inscription panels that have been reset. The first panel reads, "This Bridge repard beyond ye age of man is repard by County in eighty one. 1681. John Hall, Ralph Hakert." The second panel states, "Built by G Reed 1790."
