Description
Trinity Buoy Store is a navigation buoy store located on Camperdown Terrace in Exmouth. It is reputedly built in 1863 and was extended in 1902. The building is constructed of white-painted stone rubble and features a grouted slate hipped roof with lead rolled hips and ridge. The plan is rectangular, with wide doorways at either end. The original building from 1863 measured 35 feet by 26 feet, and in 1902, it was extended by an additional 25 feet at the east end.
The store is a single-storey structure with five rectangular windows on both the north and south sides, with the three windows on the east side being more closely spaced. The windows were originally unglazed and had iron bars, but they now feature 20th-century boarded shutters. There are wide header doorways at both the east and west ends, which have 20th-century plank double doors. The interior is said to consist of one large space with roofs made of hand and machine-sawn timbers.
Trinity Buoy Store was built by Trinity House, reportedly in 1863, on land that was leased in 1826. However, records from Trinity House indicate that the store had already been constructed by 1822.
