Description

Underhill House is a circa 1810 house situated at the end of a row of three buildings. It is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a whitewashed exterior and a slate roof, half-hipped on the right side. The roof abuts Killrush to the left. The building follows a double-depth, double-fronted plan, incorporating a central rear staircase, hall, and additional rooms at the rear. It is three storeys high, with an almost symmetrical three-window facade. The outer window bays bow fronted across all three storeys. The bay to the right leaves the angle free, exposing the end wall which contains paired chimneys; an axial chimney is shared with Killrush to the left. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the facade. The bow windows have a 3:9:3 pane configuration on the second floor, while the first and ground floors feature 4:12:4 pane hornless sash windows. The central bay has 12-pane hornless sash windows on the first and second floors. The central doorway has an open pediment, pilasters, and panelled reveals, leading to a half-glazed door with a semi-circular fanlight.
