Description
Lower Cottshayne is a cottage dating from around the 16th century. It is constructed of white-washed stone rubble and features a thatched half-hipped roof, with the eaves on the left-hand end being lower. The building has two storeys and a two-window range. On the first floor, there are two small casements with glazing bars. The ground floor includes a central glazed door and a modern metal frame window to the right. A thatched hood covers the doorway at the west end, and there is a brick ridge chimney stack located near the west end.
Inside, the cottage has a plank and muntin screen with a chamfered round arched doorway, a massive fireplace bressummer, a stopped chamfer ceiling beam, and jointed cruck trusses.
