Description
Higher Wadden Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed of rendered stone and features a corrugated iron roof with both hipped and gabled ends. The building has two storeys, with the main range displaying three casement windows at the front. There is a 17th-century gabled wing extending at a right angle to the southeast, which includes a three-light ovolo moulded stone mullion window complete with a drip mould and chamfers. A Tudor arched doorway on the east side has been enclosed by another gabled wing. The front of the farmhouse is supported by two ramped buttresses and includes a modern glazed porch at the angle. There are brick chimney stacks located on the rear wall and on the gable end of the wing.
Inside, the west end features a moulded stone arched chimneypiece with carved spandrels. The central room has a fireplace with a massive moulded bressummer on the rear wall. The southeast wing boasts a very high ceiling supported by a stopped chamfer beam and a timber bressummer above a large fireplace.
