Description
Hooperhayne Farmhouse is a house dating from around the 16th century, constructed of stone rubble, with a Victorian wing that creates an L-shaped plan. The building features a slate roof with stone capping on the gable ends and moulded kneelers. It is two storeys high with a long range and asymmetrical window arrangement, where the left side projects slightly. On the ground floor, there are two and three light ovolo moulded stone mullion windows with leaded panes, while the first floor has modern casements. A truncated external stone stack is located at the centre front, and there is a modern door to the right. To the left, there is an old nail-studded panelled door with a 19th-century brick porch at the angle of the left projection. The rear of the house has three similar stone mullion windows, with stacks over the rear wall and gable end. The south-east wing seems to have been built or altered in the late 19th century, featuring a 2:3:2 window arrangement, end gables, stone mullion windows, and a Gothic gabled porch at the centre. There is also a polygonal porch at the angle on the north side. Inside, there is a plank and muntin screen that leads to a former cross passage, although the screen on the other side has been removed. The interior includes moulded ceiling beams, a wide fireplace on the rear wall with a chamfered timber bressummer, and a moulded lintel over a window on the opposite wall. Additionally, there are two more fireplaces with timber bressummers.
