Description
Downhayne Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th or 17th century, constructed from stone rubble. It has an L-shaped plan and features a thatched roof with both hipped and gabled ends. The gable end to the south is roughcast and has stone dripmoulds over the windows. The building is two storeys high and has a total of five windows, arranged in three and two ranges, with 19th-century casements. There are brick stacks at the ridge and ends, and the stack over the north-east wing incorporates re-used stone that is dated 1661. At the rear of the north-east wing, there is a later outshut. Inside, the farmhouse has a heavy stop-chamfered ceiling beam and an open fireplace with stopped chamfered bressummers.
