Description
Broadhayes is a large house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, with a red brick front and stone dressings. The roof is slate, with stone coping to the gable ends, and a parapet featuring a moulded stone coping and cornice. Rusticated quoins and a string course are present at floor level. The house is two storeys and has an attic. It has five bays, with sash windows featuring glazing bars within moulded stone architraves. The central doorcase is distinguished by fluted half columns, a pediment, and a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, along with panelled reveals and a panelled door. Three large dormers are topped with moulded pediments. Brick chimney stacks rise above the gable ends. A long, contemporary wing extends to the rear, creating an L-shaped plan. A late 19th-century one-bay addition, set back from the front, is located at the western end.
The interior has been altered, but retains a good contemporary staircase, a moulded plaster ceiling in the drawing room, and a moulded plaster modillion cornice in the hall. An arched hall screen features fluted pilasters.
