Description

East Lodge is a lodge to Bishop's Court, built in 1834. It is constructed from snecked volcanic trap and features a conical thatched roof. This picturesque cottage-orne is designed in the style of John Nash and Humphry Repton. The building is octagonal with two rooms and has a central stack. The conical roof is supported by posts, which have replaced tree trunks, creating a covered walkway around the entire structure. There are some 20th-century extensions at the rear. The lodge is single storey and has two-light casement windows on either side of a doorway that faces the drive, which is now surrounded by latticework. The central stack has a brick shaft with a cogged cap.
