Description

The headstone located approximately 3 metres north of the aisle of the Church of St John in Colaton Raleigh is a Grade II listed structure dated 1777. It commemorates John and Frances Penny. Made of limestone, the upright slab stands about 1 metre high and features a shaped head. At the top, there is a sunken panel with a bifurcated scroll that follows the outline of the head. The inscription is neatly carved in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the death of John Penny in 1736 and his wife Frances in 1777.
