Description

Rockerhayne is a cottage dating from around the early 16th century, and possibly originally a hall house with a floor inserted in the 17th century. The building is constructed of roughcast stone and cob, with a corrugated iron roof featuring gabled and half-hipped ends. It has two storeys and a wide window range of three. The windows include one 17th-century four-light mullioned window with chamfered detailing, one 18th-century casement window, and two modern metal frame casements. The interior contains a plank and muntin screen to a passage, featuring a chamfered pointed arch doorway. A similar screen with a pointed arch doorway is also present. Possible evidence of an inserted floor to the former hall can be seen in the moulded ceiling beams and a fireplace with a chamfered bressummer. The roof structure incorporates jointed cruck trusses.
