Description
County Junior School was built in 1900 by Silcox and Ray of Bath in the Queen Anne Revival style. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings. The front of the school features a recessed central gable, flanked by lower projecting pavilions that have semicircular stone porch hoods supported by Ionic columns, along with semi-circular fanlights that include glazing bars. The pavilions are adorned with flanking windows that have glazing bar sashes and moulded architraves, topped with a balustrade over the cornice. The main gable has a modillion verge cornice, and a cornice at the ground floor level through which the round head of the main Venetian window extends, this section featuring a Gibbs surround. The Venetian window is supported by Doric columns. Below this window is a large cartouche inscribed with the words: "This stone was laid by Sir Roger Brown April 28th 1900". At the center of the tiled roof, there is a decorative pepperpot belfry.
