Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a Grade II* listed building located on Stallard Street. The foundation stone was laid in 1837, and it was designed by architect A. F. Livesay, with construction by builders Charles and Richard Gane. This stone-built church is designed in the Early English style and features a cruciform plan with angle chapels and a large tower on the southeast arm.

The exterior includes angle buttresses with gablets and pinnacles, a two-bay aisled chancel with wall strips and a corbel table parapet, and parapetted gables with weathered coping. The tower consists of two stages and is crenellated, with angle buttresses that transition into stop-chamfered corner piers. The ground floor of the tower has two large lancets, while the first floor has three outer blind lancets and an inner louvred section for the belfry, along with corbels supporting the cornice.

The nave is a four-bay aisle with a projecting gabled front to the southwest, featuring three tall lancets and massive side pinnacles. The side walls also have wall strips and a corbel table parapet, with an entrance located in the south angle, marked by a pointed arch.

Inside, the church boasts quadripartite vaults supported by very slender band Purbeck shafts, with raised dogtooth detailing on the vault shafts of the central bay, creating a very wide and open space.
