Description
Baptist Church, built in 1857, is constructed of English bond brick featuring vitrified header patterns and topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has a limestone ashlar bellcote. The church consists of a nave and chancel, with a northwest porch. The west end includes a lean-to porch on the left, which has double panelled doors and a fanlight. The west front showcases large round-arched two-light windows with margin panes and a rose window, flanked by round-arched margin-pane windows. The facade is divided vertically by pilasters with raking plinths. The deep eaves are supported by wooden brackets, and there is a gabled bellcote on the west gable. The left side features a porch with a round window above it, and to the left are two pairs of tall margin-pane windows, matching the pilasters on the front. The right side has three pairs of tall margin-pane windows. The rear, or east end, has a gabled roof with round windows, and lower roof levels for church rooms that include 20th-century windows. The interior is not accessible, but the arrangement of rooms has been altered. This church is noted for its unusual bold design, replacing a late 18th-century church that previously occupied the same site.
