Description
This property, comprising three houses now divided into two cottages at 39, 41, and 43 The Borough, dates to the 17th and 18th centuries. It is built of Flemish bond brick and has a thatched roof with brick stacks. The building is single-storey with an attic, displaying three windows. Number 39 has a 20th-century door within a chamfered wooden case and three two-light casement windows on the ground floor. Number 43 has a 20th-century door and two-light casement windows. The attic has three two-light casement windows. A single-storey weatherboarded extension is present to the left, also under the thatched roof. The right return features a 20th-century casement and an external brick stack.
The interior of number 41 retains chamfered beams with ogee stops and an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel. Originally timber-framed, the building was refaced in brick and formerly open to the roof with a smoke bay, which was later replaced by a smoke hood and a floor inserted in the 17th century, and a later 18th-century brick chimney was added.
