Description
Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with a 17th-century wing, and was altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and dressed limestone, topped with a tiled roof and featuring brick stacks. The building has a through passage leading to the rear of the stack and is single-storey with an attic, displaying a two-window earlier range.
The central gabled porch contains a four-panelled door set in an elliptically-headed doorway. To the left of the porch is a single chamfered fire window, and on either side of the porch are four-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements. There are two full gabled dormers, each with three-light mullioned casements. The left return of the building has a blocked pointed doorway and remnants of a string course above it.
The 17th-century cross range to the right features three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements on both the ground and first floors, along with a string course on the left return. The gable end of this wing has a 19th-century three-storey square bay with four-light mullioned casements. The right return of the wing includes a central three-panelled door flanked by three-light mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, as well as single-light casements on either side of the first floor, and a gabled dormer on the roof.
At the rear, there is a six-panelled door and a three-light mullioned casement, along with a two-light attic casement in the main range. The wing features two-light mullioned casements. The interior is largely inaccessible, but the through passage showcases fine strap-work panelling on the left side, deeply chamfered beams, and open fireplaces with chamfered lintels on stone jambs. The farmhouse is possibly a Medieval house that was remodelled and extended in the 17th century.
