Description
Barton Hill is a building constructed between 1862 and 1863, designed by architect William White. It is made of red brick with a tile-hung extension at the rear and features a pitched tile roof with ashlar coped gables and brick stacks. The building has two storeys and attics. Some of the windows are wooden casements, while others are stone mullioned.
There is a wooden entrance porch with a pitched tile roof. Behind the porch, there is a brick quadrant relieving arch supported by a foliate corbel. The entrance features a planked door with iron hinges set in a pointed arch, which has alternate voussoirs made of vitrified headers. To the right of the porch is a single-light cusped pointed arch window with an ashlar surround and an ashlar hood mould supported by foliate label stops. Above this window are paired lancets that also have hood moulds on foliate label stops, along with plate tracery, plain transoms, and cusped heads for each lancet.
