Description

The Tunnel to Hindon from Fonthill Park is a road tunnel located below The Terraces in Fonthill Gifford. It was likely constructed in the late 18th century. The tunnel features dressed limestone and rubble stone revetment walls, with a plain parapet on the north side. There are round-arched openings on both the north and south sides, with the arch on the south side being taller. This tunnel is part of William Beckford's landscape work surrounding Fonthill Abbey, which took place between 1793 and 1822.
