Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory built between 1865 and 1866. It is constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features steep slate roofs, coped gables, and prominent ashlar stacks. The building is two storeys high and designed in the High Victorian Gothic style, forming a basic L-plan with an east cross wing and a main front facing south, along with a parallel north range.

The south front includes a gable on the cross wing to the right and a two-window range to the left. The cross wing is adorned with an angel finial, a boldly detailed plate-traceried upper window dated 1866, and a large canted bay on the ground floor. The left range features steep eaves-breaking dormer gables above pointed-headed paired sash windows, as well as a pair and a triple sash on the ground floor. All ground floor windows have dividing shafts and shouldered heads. The gables are decorated with banding, carved shields, and mottoes.

The east front has a near-symmetrical two-window arrangement, similar upper dormer gables, and a ground floor paired sash to the left. To the right, there is a pointed arched door flanked by two plate-traceried two-light windows, all with hood moulds. The north end wall has diagonally placed stair-lights and corresponding corbelling to the stack. The north range includes a lower gable adjoining the main gable and a two-window range beyond with a pointed arched door. There is a single-storey range at the west end.

Inside, the entrance hall features three armorial stained glass windows and the original staircase.
