Description
No. 4 King Street, known as Thomas, is a building dated 1725 that has been altered, possibly as a remodelling of an older house. It is two storeys high, with a timber frame that is rendered on the front and pebbledash on the side facing Primrose Hill, although the timber frame is visible inside and at the rear. The building has a thatched roof, with the road side featuring slate and a scalloped bargeboard on the gable. There are late glazed sash windows, with two ranges facing the road and a blocked door. On the Primrose Hill side, there are three ranges of windows and a small window on the first floor to the left. A six-panel door is located with a lintel that is shared with the adjacent window to the right. Below the datestone marked S W L 1725, there is one window in the gable facing the road. A modern one-bay, two-storey extension with a garage has been added to the Primrose Hill side. Inside, the front room features a post supporting the main beam and a small inglenook fireplace.
