Description
The road block at the Royal Wilton Carpet Factory is a Grade II listed building, primarily dating from the 18th century, with some later additions. It is part of a quadrangular group of buildings that includes a river block. The road front features a long 18th-century structure that is two storeys high and consists of 16 bays arranged in three groups.
The left section has five bays and a steep-pitched hipped mansard slate roof. The central section also has five bays and includes a segmental-headed yard entrance in the left bay, topped by a flat-pitched slate roof. The right section is taller, comprising six bays with a slate mansard roof. The walls are made of colour-washed brick on a plinth, except for the left section, which is constructed from colour-washed flint and brick in bands.
The building features small pane windows, with the upper windows being segmental-headed and the ground floor windows arched with radiating glazing. There is a four-window return to the southeast, where the upper windows are segmental-headed two-light casements.
