Description
Conigre Parsonage, built around 1700, was likely constructed for the Moultons, who were wealthy clothiers. In 1731, it was designated for the use of the Minister of Conigre Non-Conformist Church. This large 'L' shaped building has two storeys and features five by five windows on its south and west sides.
The south front is finished in stucco on a moulded plinth, with a moulded cornice that mitres over chamfered quoins. The roof is half hipped to the right and hipped to the left, with three dormers. The glazing bar sash windows have plain painted stone surrounds, and the central entrance features a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight that has a semi-circular and radiating pattern. This door is set within a doorcase that includes Doric pilasters, scroll brackets, a small cornice, and a segmental pediment, with the cornice breaking forward over the brackets. The doorway is flanked by narrow windows.
The west front is constructed of brick on a similar plinth, with a stone band at the first floor level. It has five cross windows in flush stone surrounds with reeded inner edges, although the right-hand windows are blocked. There is a tall central door with a plain rectangular fanlight, set in a stone surround with pilasters and a flat moulded hood supported by cut scroll brackets. A gable is present at the rear chimney stack. The interior has been vandalized.
The listed buildings on the north side of Conigre form a group with West Croft and Nos 1 and 2 Waldron's Square in British Row.
