Description
These are a group of six terraced cottages, numbered 5 to 11, dating to around 1857. They were originally built as a group of five to seven cottages, with Nos 6 and 7 having roughcast fronts and No 9 painted. The remaining cottages are faced with ashlar. A band runs above the ground floor, and brackets support the eaves gutter. The roofs are covered with double Roman tiles or slate, with brick chimneys, the chimneys of Nos 10 and 11 being ashlar. Each cottage has a single range of late-glazed sash windows, although some have been replaced with modern casements. Nos 5 to 7 have a plain, shallow raised pediment above the ground floor windows, along with scrolled brackets above the cornice over the plain doorways. Nos 8 and 9 feature an eaves band and plain doorways. Nos 10 and 11 have plain brackets and hoods to their plain doorways. The cottages form a group with Nos 1 to 13 (inclusive), the central block of the District Hospital, and Nos 16 to 29 (inclusive).
