Description
Swayne's Mead is a cottage from the 17th century that was extended in the 20th century. It is constructed of rendered cob or chalk and features a thatched roof. The building is single storey with an attic and originally had two bays, but a large third bay was added to the north around 1950, followed by a dining room extension around 1965. The original part includes a large living room and a narrow service room to the north, which now serves as the entrance. This entrance has a boarded door with a propped thatched canopy. The cottage features leaded timber windows. Inside, the living room has a deeply chamfered spine beam with stops and an open fireplace with an oven, although the jambs are now made of brick. There is a cross chamfered beam in the entrance bay and a 20th-century stair. The roof has a single purlin and has been partly rebuilt.
