Description
Oxen Leaze Farmhouse, now a detached house, dates from the mid-17th century and was restored in the 20th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof and stone stacks, arranged in a rambling L-plan. The two-storey main block with an attic has a four-window north front. A gabled 20th-century porch is located to the left of centre, containing a 20th-century inner door. To the right of the porch are two 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, and a single-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould to the left. The first floor has four recessed chamfered mullioned casements; the right-hand two bays are clearly defined by a straight joint. A hipped attic dormer is fitted with a 20th-century casement. A cross wing to the left features a 2-light mullioned casement with a hoodmould on the ground, first, and attic floors. The right return of the main range includes 20th-century mullioned casements. The rear elevation contains a planked door within a chamfered surround and hoodmould, flanked by two 2-light mullioned casements at ground level, and two further 2-light mullioned casements on the first floor. Two hipped attic dormers are also present. A wing projecting to the rear left has a planked door and 20th-century leaded casements, with attached 20th-century single-storey extensions. The interior has been altered since the restoration but retains chamfered beams with jewel stops and open fireplaces.
