Description
The Old Werretts is a three-cottage dwelling, now a house, dating to the late 18th century and early 19th century, built on an earlier core. The exterior is rubble stone, with a stone tiled roof and end wall stacks on the right-hand range, one of which is rendered and one of which is ashlar. The building is two storeys high and comprises two sections. The left-hand section was originally a pair of cottages, with a ridge stack that has since been removed. The right-hand section is a larger, double-fronted cottage from the early 19th century, incorporating older work at its left end. The right-hand section features two 12-pane sash windows on each floor, set within flush stone surrounds, and a central doorway. The left-hand section has two timber, leaded casement windows on the first floor and, at ground floor, a fine early 19th-century shopfront to its left end, likely using reused materials. The shopfront has a bow front with 28 panes, an ashlar base, a timber dentil cornice, and a reeded soffit. To the right of the shopfront is a former doorway, now a 6-pane window; a right-end door has a single stone tile for a hood. A single-storey outbuilding is situated at the left end and contains a pair of leaded casement windows. It was formerly known as Bethel Place.
