Description
Martinsell Cottages are a group of six estate cottages built in 1921, designed by Clough Williams-Ellis for Oare House. The cottages are constructed of pink painted brick with double-ridged pantiles. They extend for 17 window bays, with a central block of five bays projecting forward. This central block features a round-arched open footway and timber pilasters rising through two storeys to an open pediment above the central three bays. The windows are twelve-paned sashes with wide frames; some have boarded shutters. The ground floor wings feature sixteen-paned sashes, and each house has a centrally recessed door opening, some of which have been replaced with windows. The eaves are boxed, and the roof is hipped with large, stepping brick stacks.
