Description

The Church of the Holy Trinity is an Anglican chapel of ease, now serving as a parish church, built between 1857 and 1858 by architect S.S. Teulon for Mrs. M. Goodman. The church is constructed of brick with a slate roof and features a nave with an apse and a south porch, along with a lean-to vestry on the north side. Designed in a Romanesque style, the exterior walls are divided into panels by a raised chamfered base, pilaster strips, and a corbel table. The round-headed windows have rebates and continuous brick hoods and strings, with the surrounds made of mildly contrasting bricks arranged in a chequered pattern on the west gable. The apse is adorned with windows arranged as a blind arcade. The west elevation includes two 2-light windows with a central buttress, topped by a bellcote. The doors within the porch have stone dressings.

Inside, the nave is unplastered and features a roof with six bays supported by arch-braced collar trusses. The apse is highlighted by a multi-coloured arch on painted Romanesque columns. Notable fittings include a font at the west end made of gloss-painted stone with heavy intersecting arches, a pulpit crafted from stained softwood, and a simple low sanctuary rail. The church also contains five 20th-century brass monuments and a painted wood dedication board located above the pulpit.
