Description
Box Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century and early 19th century. It features part timber framing on sarsen footings, with a later brick section, and has a thatched roof. Originally a single storey with an attic, it was raised to two storeys and extended or refaced in the 19th century. The timber framing has rendered infilling, with three panels high and slightly cusped corner braces, although only one bay of this framing survives. The gable is tile hung. There is a canted oriel window on the first floor of the framed section. The right side consists of three bays, featuring a central door and timber casement windows set in segmental headed openings, along with a blue flush string. The building has a gable stack and a stack at the junction of the two sections. The roof is hipped, and there is a lean-to on the right end.
