Description

No 1 Nursteed Road is a building situated at the corner of Nursteed Road and Church Walk, dating from around 1830 to 1840. It is two storeys tall, cement rendered on a plinth, and has a T-shaped plan with gable end roofs covered in stone tiles. The building features grouped octagonal chimneys with splayed caps.

The entrance front facing Nursteed Road has three windows, including one in a gabled projection to the right, which has open work cusped bargeboards. There is a smaller gable above the left-hand first floor window. The first floor of the gabled bay includes a stone oriel window with four-centred arched top panes for the casement lights, pointed arched panels on the apron, and a moulded cornice. The other windows are recessed two-light casements, with a three-light casement on the ground floor of the gabled bay, all featuring similar glazing to the oriel and block sills.

The stone gabled porch has a parapet that is broken by a string carried up as a gable. It features a moulded four-centred arched surround to the double doors, which have neo-Tudor panelling and two narrow lights on each door, as well as side lights.

On the Church Walk front, there are two windows, one in a projecting gabled bay with plain bargeboards. The left-hand first floor window also has a small gable above it. The recessed two-light casements are similar to those on the main entrance front, with the addition of a drip mould over the first floor. The ground floor of the gabled bay has an oriel window with similar glazing, moulded mullions, a cornice, and a stepped stone roof. The right-hand gable contains a panel with cusping and a round shield. There is a side entrance with a gabled porch to the left. The north gable end of the main block features cusped bargeboards. Set back and adjoining to the north is a lower two-storey wing with one window, similar to those on the main block.
