Description
London Road Youth Centre was built as a school in 1861. It is constructed from coursed Chilmark stone rubble, featuring dressed stone quoins. There is a band between the two storeys. The main block is set back with two-storey lower gabled bays that project on each side, adorned with ornamental bargeboards and pendant finials. The lower wings to the east and west also have bargeboards on their gable ends. The gabled bays and wings contain two-light casements in flush frames, each with hood moulds above. The main block features large transomed four-light casements on both floors, with the ground floor window having a shallow hood mould and a relieving arch above it, which includes a date plaque and inscription. There is a lean-to porch in the east wing, with a door consisting of four flush panels and a drip mould above. The roofs are gable-ended and covered with slate, and the eaves are wide.
