Description

London Road Bridge is one of four bridges over the canal, all sharing the same design. It features a large stilted arch made of stone, with radiating chamfered voussoirs and a centered keystone. The chamfered joints extend horizontally through the archway. At road level, there is a projecting string and a solid stone parapet with weathered coping. The design is utilitarian for its time, lacking pretentious architectural quality, but it is well built with an effective and simple treatment of the stonework.
