Description
The Sculpture of the Four Seasons is a sculptural group located approximately 390 meters southeast of the remains of Old Fonthill Abbey. This mid-19th century work features near life-size statues carved from limestone, each representing one of the Four Seasons, and is set on a plinth. It is reputed that the Marquess of Westminster purchased these statues at the Paris Exhibition in either 1855 or 1867 for the gardens surrounding Fonthill Abbey, which was designed by William Burn in 1846 and demolished in 1955.
