Description
Carpenter's Farmhouse is a house with origins in the 17th century, originally timber-framed, that has been refronted in red brick and completely clad in 20th-century hanging concrete tiles. It features a stone slate roof and stands two storeys tall with two brick ridge stacks and an additional stack at the east end. The main range has three pairs of 20th-century casement windows on the upper floor, while the ground floor has three 20th-century triple casements, with doors located to the left and right of the third window. There is a brick addition at the left end and a right end addition with a lower roof, which is also tile-hung.
Inside, the house has a lobby entry plan and a winding staircase that features a short length of 17th-century rail with a square newel and one splat baluster. The first floor has chamfered and scroll-stopped centre beams, and the roof consists of tie-beam and collar trusses supporting a double purlin, spanning six bays. The west end gable, which is partly obscured, retains timber framing with two curved wind braces and the remnants of a three-light timber-mullion window that is now located internally.
