Description
The Crown Inn is a 17th-century inn that has been altered in the 19th century. It is timber framed and rendered at the front, topped with a slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of four bays, with a single bay extension to the left added in the 19th century. The layout features a lobby entry plan, with a half-glazed door located in a 19th-century porch that has carved barge boards and a finial.
The inn showcases wide mid-19th-century four-paned sash windows, a canted bay window to the left of the entrance, and a small square bay on the right. The left bay includes a secondary door within the square bay, accompanied by sidelights. The 19th-century extension has similar windows. The building features cogged brick eaves, gable stacks, and a stack located in the third bay opposite the door.
On the north gable end, the exposed timber framing is visible, consisting of three panels high with corner braces. At the rear, there is a two-bay extension made of brick and laced flint behind the central bay, along with various later 19th-century and 20th-century additions. The interior has been altered over time.
