Description

A terrace of four cottages, likely originally almshouses, dating from circa 1690, located in Castle Street, Ludgervall. The building is constructed of flint and brick, with a brick facade, partly painted, and has a thatched roof. The terrace is single-storied with an attic. Originally eight bays, it was extended to the north (at No. 19) by two additional bays. The facade is strongly modelled with brick pilasters, which diminish above a moulded plat band running around the pilasters. Recessed openings are present in each bay; boarded doors are located in bays 2 and 7, while top-hung three-light windows are in bays 1, 3, 6, and 8. Bays 4 and 5 have blank openings. Flush dormers are situated above bays 3, 6, and 8, with the dormer in bay 8 likely a later addition. The northernmost bay (No. 19) is constructed of brick and features a boarded door and 20th-century windows with applied leading. This final bay turns the corner into Butt Street.
