Description
Ludgershall War Memorial is a First World War memorial that includes later additions for the Second World War and the War in Afghanistan. It is constructed from Bath stone on a limestone base, with iron railings set on a low flint boundary wall.
The memorial stands on a hexagonal stepped plinth within a railed enclosure at the junction of Andover Road (A342) and the High Street in Ludgershall. It features a four-sided stone pillar with a raised plinth on a shallow octagonal stone base. The pillar has raised corners and recessed side panels with carved incised inscriptions. At the top, it is finished with a pyramid and a drop cap finial.
On the southern side, the memorial bears the inscription: TO HONOUR/ THE MEMORY/ OF THOSE/ MEN OF/ LUDGERSHALL/ WHO FELL/ IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919/1939-1945, accompanied by a wreath. The eastern side lists the names of those lost in the First World War, while the western side includes names from both the First World War and the war in Afghanistan. The northern side commemorates those lost in the Second World War.
The memorial is surrounded by a small triangular garden enclosed by a low flint wall and plain iron railings.
