Description

This is a late 18th or early 19th century building, likely a refurbishment of an earlier structure, located at 31-35 Castle Street. The building is three storeys high and rendered, with moulded bands marking the floors and a decorative cornice and parapet along the top. It originally had nine windows to the upper floors, with a central blind window and one on number 33. The windows are recessed sash windows, retaining their original glazing bars and block sills. Number 31 has a modern neo-Georgian shop front on the ground floor, but it retains, or has had reset, a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing and fine 18th-century carved brackets to the hood above. Numbers 33 and 35 have modern shop fronts, with a passage between them. A section of number 33, closest to the street, has visible timber framing on the first and second floors, with the second floor jettied. The rear elevation of numbers 33 and 35 is three storeys high, tile-hung, and features flush-framed sash windows with intact glazing bars.

Numbers 27 to 35 form a group.
