Description

The Three Crowns Inn, located at 25 Maryport Street, is a building from the 16th or 17th century that was largely rebuilt in the early 19th century. It has two storeys and an attic, with a stuccoed front featuring four painted gables. A cast iron gutter decorated with lion heads runs along the foot of the gables. The ornamental bargeboards, which include wood finials, are partly from the 16th century and have been restored. The roof is tiled at the gable ends. Each gable has a two-light 19th-century casement window. On the first floor, there are four windows, with the left-hand pair coupled, featuring sash windows with intact glazing bars, all set under drip moulds with block stops.

On the ground floor, there are two windows and a glazed door with four-centred arched glazing to the left, along with a yard entrance surrounded by painted quoins, one window, a recessed door with six flush panels, and a tripartite window. The ground floor windows and doors also have similar drip moulds to those on the first floor. A large painted sign hangs on heavy wrought iron brackets, featuring a plain design, on the second gable from the left. The Three Crowns Inn is part of a group with buildings numbered 25 to 33 Maryport Street.
