Description
No. 21 High Street is a shop built between 1900 and 1910, designed in a Mannerist Classical style. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan with rear extensions and stands three storeys tall with a symmetrical three-bay front. The shop front is from the 20th century.
The tall windows consist of six small panes over two tall panes, arranged as 4/1 on the sides of the bays. A modillion cornice runs across the facade, projecting over the narrow central bay. Above this, the parapet rises into segmental pediments above the outer bays. Below these pediments are coved semicircular-arched recessed panels, which have moulded keystones and imposts, and feature canted bays on the first and second floors. The second-floor bays have dentilled cornices and hipped stone roofs. The central bay includes a small broken pediment and a cartouche above a raised panel that contains a window for the upper floors. The interior has not been inspected.
